Review of Bryant scores 31 points as Lakers sweep Nuggets

On the NBA final 5 1/2 minutes Monday night, Kobe Bryant scored 14 of his 31 points ,leading the Lakers to a 107-101 victory over the Nuggets. No surrender on this night. The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the vigorous Denver Nuggets. It is the first time the Lakers sweep a playoff series since whitewashing New Jersey in the 2002 NBA finals. And the Nuggets became the first 50-win team to ever be swept in the first round of the playoffs. Although the Nuggets did very well in the Western Conference, yet they were not strong enough for the top-seeded Lakers.
During the course, Bryant made three free throws and a jumper after Denver’s Kenyon Martin and Carmelo Anthony soon fouled out. However, The Nuggets didn’t lay down放弃, even when they fell behind by 13 points in the first half. They stormed back to make it a seesaw game拉锯战 in the second half. The Nuggets couldn’t keep Los Angeles out of the lane for easy layups and dunks and they made the silly mistakes that the Lakers avoided, it looked like the Nuggets were ready to surrender for the summer. After that, the Nuggets ditched their off-day practice while the Lakers went through a 90-minute workout.

Review of Philadelphia at Detroit

When the Pistons are down in the playoffs or hearing from their doubters, they’re at their best.
When a series is even or they’re ahead and outsiders rave about them, they’re at their worst.
The second-seeded team in the Eastern Conference has trailed the Philadelphia 76ers twice in their first-round series and responded to each deficit with a lopsided win.

After losing Games 1 and 3, Detroit is determined to take its first lead in the series Tuesday night when it hosts Game 5.
With three current starters playing key roles, they’ve trailed in a series for the 10th time dating to the 2003 playoffs, when they dug their first of many holes by falling behind the Orlando Magic 3-1.
Prince has often played a supporting role for the Pistons since going from bench-warmer to a surprise stopper, who shut down Tracy McGrady to help them rally against the Magic five years ago in the first round.
Wallace, Billups or Hamilton usually lead the way offensively and Prince follows.

Review of Olympic Odyssey: Pizza Perfect

Former World Number one Chris Hill takes us to Beijing through the athletes’ eyes
Nothing is too foreign for Debbie Tanner. That’s because she will normalize it by wearing it down with routine. And this routine has put her in the box seat for something special in Beijing.

Her rise in the sport of triathlon has come through doing all the little things right. Nutrition, training, and recovery were targets for Tanner, now 25, leading into the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
With her impressive Beijing test race result last year—leading the other Kiwi women home and beaten only by the best in the sport: Vanessa Fernandes, Emma Snowsill, and Laura Bennett—the answer was a resounding, no.
While she is not super superstitious, Tanner adheres to a diet of pizza-only the night before a race. And she is not the only triathlete with lucky race charms; some of the best in the business have put faith in them too.
Former World Number one Chris Hill brings his unique elite athlete perspective in weekly Olympic columns to ITU’s website, triathlon.org. He competed on the ITU World Cup circuit, winning three titles and ten medals in total.

Review of tennis games

On the men’s side, Federer— the No. 1 ranking in male’s tennis game, opened the season’s first major without dropping a game in the first set at Rod Laver Arena. At present, he has not played a competitive match in two months. It was told by the doctors that he had food poisoning, causing speculation about his fitness. Federer said he didn’t want the media to analyze his game. He also said that he never expects a result this extreme obviously, but he was playing well in practice, moving well, serving well, and conditions were perfect.
On the women’s side. Wimbledon champion Venus Williams played her first match in three years at the Australian Open. She downed China’s Yan Zi but hit 29 unforced errors and only 19 winners. Serena Williams, unseeded and ranked No. 81 when she beat top-seeded Maria Sharapova in last year’s final, plays Wednesday in the second round against China’s Yuan Meng. No. 5 Sharapova has the toughest second-round match of the highly ranked players

It was Bryant’s 87th career 40-point game and the fourth in his last five games in Seattle. Before the game, Seattle coach P.J. Carlesimo said he wouldn’t mind it if Bryant went off just as long as he was forced to take a lot of shots.
