The Noise Is Killing Me

In this article, the author talk about a popular phenomenon in sports field, the “noise” outside the game while a game is still going on. like the irrelevant explanation of the drug use of the athletes, all the dancing girls and the acrobats at the field, people discussing about the private life of the coach, the bad reputation of a particular athlete or referee. Such noise is making the pure game-watching spectators confused and sad. In author’s opinion, a game is a game, while a commentary is a commentary, they can not be combined or mixed in to a mass, or it will make the pure game impure, make the audience judge the game with colorful eyes. He was fad up with such noisy situation happens on a match. In his summary part, he said substituting something that’s trivial-but-noisily-immediate for something that’s virtuous — even smally virtuous, like a game we play or ponder — breeds an ugly cynicism about virtue itself.
While as far as I am concerned, I understand the author’s feeling, and sometimes I do have such feeling, but on a large scale, I think this can not be banned, people are interested not only the game itself, but also the real life ,the character and the quality of their beloved athletes , coaches and referee, such “irrelevant” commentary do have the effect to satisfy the spectators, besides people have the right of free-talking. So I think if people who don’t like this can watch the game on TV or find some online news, because this phenomenon can not avoided and on the contrary, will exist in the sporting field for a long term, as long as people still love sports, people still interested in it.
