China’s National Team Hoping Yao Will Return for Games

yao mingYao Ming injured his left foot on Wednesday, and what was worse, his injury may let him not appear in the Olympics.

As we all known, Yao is the hardcore of Chinese basketball team, he is the most valuable player in china’s basketball history. While doctors say he should still make the Game, healing is expected to take until around June. Manager of Chinese men’s national team said he understand how yao feels, and concerned about his condition like all his fans.

Now people are discussing about the reason for yao’s injury. Some said that is because he got too much game time this season, while others think injury is unavoidable in this competitive sport. I think the reason is not as important as compare to his possible loss. He said it will be his biggest loss in his career to right now.

China’s Olympic Committee has no immediate comment, and thousands of Yao’s fans are expressing their concern and their opinion about his injury. More people hoping he could return to Beijing Games.

Yao Ming was the most famous Chinese athlete in NBA, and he is expected by millions of people in Beijing’s Olympics. Many people buy the tickets mostly because he participates in the game. Since he was badly injured recently and no exact days to come back, I think the tickets may face decline. as a volunteer of basketball and fans if Yao Ming, I feel very disappointed and shocked when I heard this news especially he may miss the Beijing’s Olympics . i am expecting to see him on the court again, because that is the place he should live in , and that is his ways to show him to show china. Wish him better soon .Fighting, Yao Ming! You are the best! I support you foe ever!

The Noise Is Killing Me

In this article, the author talk about a popular phenomenon in sports field, the “noise” outside the game while a game is still going on. like the irrelevant explanation of the drug use of the athletes, all the dancing girls and the acrobats at the field, people discussing about the private life of the coach, the bad reputation of a particular athlete or referee. Such noise is making the pure game-watching spectators confused and sad. In author’s opinion, a game is a game, while a commentary is a commentary, they can not be combined or mixed in to a mass, or it will make the pure game impure, make the audience judge the game with colorful eyes. He was fad up with such noisy situation happens on a match. In his summary part, he said substituting something that’s trivial-but-noisily-immediate for something that’s virtuous — even smally virtuous, like a game we play or ponder — breeds an ugly cynicism about virtue itself.
While as far as I am concerned, I understand the author’s feeling, and sometimes I do have such feeling, but on a large scale, I think this can not be banned, people are interested not only the game itself, but also the real life ,the character and the quality of their beloved athletes , coaches and referee, such “irrelevant” commentary do have the effect to satisfy the spectators, besides people have the right of free-talking. So I think if people who don’t like this can watch the game on TV or find some online news, because this phenomenon can not avoided and on the contrary, will exist in the sporting field for a long term, as long as people still love sports, people still interested in it.

My Volunteer Life

Being a volunteer of the Olympics is almost every college student’s dream, so do I. I am lucky to be one of the volunteer, and I really experienced a lot during my 15-day wheelchair basketball volunteer life.

Wheelchair basketball surely is played by the disabilities who lost control of their legs, their adamancy, their optimism, their courage astound me, encourage me and I am deeply moved by their spirit and beautifully technical skill in playing the game. I learned a lot from them. I do remember Helen Keller once said, “I am crying, crying for I have no shoes to wear, until I saw a person who even did not have feet.” God is fair to everybody; he closed one door by open another door for us. All of us should cherish our life; cherish the opportunity God give us. When we are frustrated , we can not lose faith, lose hope and feel desperate, because there are many people who are suffering far more than us, and who still living with full gratitude to God.

I also learn a lot about the Paralympics, especially the event of wheelchair basketball, and the knowledge of how to communicate with disabilities, how to help them without hurting their dignity. All of them are tough things, and need a lot patience and keen perception.

Unfortunately, this time my job is IWBF Service Assistant, which means I am not responsible for the athletes. While I am serve the president of the IWBF, the international officials, and technical delegates. Seems great, ha? The reality is totally different. English major students become a bodyguard, standing before their office and don’t know what else could do except dogsleep. At first, I think it is a boring work, because silently standing for several hours makes me nearly become a sample. Then I see my job as a way to challenge my patience and persistence, life become less boring, and I even found it’s interesting to some extent. But can not show my English ability made me feel a little sad.

Half an hour later I have to go to the International Indoor Stadium to start my work, and I am ready.

You Fix The Game, I Break Your Legs

Tim Donaghy, a formal NBA referee, admitted that he fed inside information to gamblers, some of it regarding games he officiated. His action made him have to face up to 25 years in prison, while the N.B.A. faces months and perhaps years of suspicion regarding the integrity of its games.

Nowadays, fixing in games is more prevalent than people think, both in college games and pro games. Pros get to Vegas, get beat; kids get in trouble because there’s more gambling available. What is worse, fixing not only exists in basketball, but also in other famous sports, like tennis, baseball.

How do fans see this phenomenon? Will they continue fully support their favorite team? Probably not. Fans will find themselves are cheated by the players, referee, and they lose their formal faith to the team. That is a disaster for both the team and referee, if no fans love them, support them, how do they live in sports field? This is from a single team’s aspect, while from a big scale, what impact will it have on the whole sports field? People may begin to suspect the purity of the sports matches, and which means the whole sports field will face suspicion from audience and media. Sports franchises will face financial problem, even may go into bankruptcy.

How to solve this problem? I think this need the great attention from players, referee and the administration. If they don’t come out an effective plan to deal with fixing, they are on their way to die. Standing at a place of fans, I appeal the pertinent people could aware the bad influence of their action, and resist this action together.

A Tax Scare at the Garden, Among Other Worries

After six straight losing seasons and an off-season in which the franchise was found liable for sexual harassment, the New York Knicks was proved to completely lose its popularity; its fans were demonstrated in the Madison Square Garden either to save its franchise or to end the Garden’s tax-exemption since 1982. The city council is considering a resolution calling on the State Legislature to end the Koch-era exemptions that, have freed the arena from paying city property taxes. The city council members did it before, but it did not achieve a good resolution at that time. However, with the situation become worse and worse, finally there were members support the tax-exemption proposal.

Now the decline of the team may has a bad influence on the city’s economy either. The bad influence on Garden has made it find ways out. Personally speaking, the premier determination to allow the Garden free from paying taxes was established as an incite system, it was proved out a good method to improve both the quality of team and the local economy. But everything should be changed according to the changing situation, so did the tax-exemption system. Since it is an incite mechanism, it should has the effect to stimulate the performance of the team, if the team did badly, the taxes should be added.

So the better resolution in my opinion is to end the mechanism immediately, and wash out the bad teams. Besides, the Garden should also find another team to continue its life.
