Nevada springs random drug tests on fighters

Posted by brittany2 on 28th April 2008

The Nevada Athletic Commission is getting proactive in its bid to stop the use of anabolic steroids and drugs of abuse among boxers and mixed martial artists.
While the commission has long conducted post-fight drug testing, the commission earlier this month conducted surprise drug tests on two high-profile boxers and a big-name UFC star.

Boxers Shane Mosley and Zab Judah, who meet in a welterweight bout at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on May 31, as well as UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn, were randomly tested earlier this month.
Random drug testing was a recommendation to the commission by the Committee on Boxer Health and Safety, which was created by former Nevada Gov. Kenny Guinn after a pair of in-ring deaths in Las Vegas in 2005.

Rockets lack firepower to defeat Jazz

Posted by brittany2 on 23rd April 2008

The loss of Yao Ming did not stop the Houston Rockets from winning 22 straight games.

Houston also managed to win 55 games during the regular season, while its big man missed 27 contests.

But the Rockets now find themselves in a two-games-to-none hole in the Western Conference playoffs after dropping their first two contests at home to the Utah Jazz. Houston lost, 90-84, in Game Two on Monday.

The Jazz, who own the league’s best home record at 37-4, can close the series out with Game Three and Four at the EnergySolutions Arena on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

Houston won’t make any excuses and Utah, which defeated the Rockets in seven games last season, is definitely talented enough to make a run deep into the playoffs - like it did last season.

Instead, with a pair of disappointing home defeats, Rockets fans are left to wonder in these playoffs, “what if” they had more scoring punch and if their magical run during the season is all for naught.
