The Old Times of My Grandmother

Posted by mint on January 20th, 2008

My grandmother asked me to scan some old pictures which were of her family. These pictures are so old that even the color has turned yellow. I have to treat them very carefully in order not to destroy them.

And I decide to put some of them here to show the time far far away from us…

house

This is the house my grandma used to live when she was a little girl, together lived her parents and brothers and sisters. In front of the house there was a garden, which had some trees and flowers in it. I think even in nowadays, house like this would be considered as remarkable, so I said to my grandma that I envied her so much, but she said that this house was destroyed soon later by the army.

This is my grandma’s father, and her brother. I like the carpet : )

This is my grandma’s grandfather’s father, woow~ is there a word to describe the relationship between this man and me in English, i mean, except “ancestor”?

While i was doing the scanning, grandma told me some stories in her childhood, and something about the Anti-Japanese War.  Suddenly I felt the history was fascinating, especially the history of my family. I really enjoy holding the idea that once, my family was in possession of  a brilliant estate.

Wow, Hazel, I loved seeing your pictures! Gosh your grandmother’s grandfather’s father would be a great, great, great grandfather! How wonderful that she could get you to preserve them for her and that she could share some of her history with her. Ask her all the questions you can think of to find out more including places and dates and names. I know I wish I had asked my grandmother more about her past and where she was from and about her experiences but I didn’t think of it while she was around. They have a wealth of information, for sure.

Hope you are enjoying the time with your family this holiday. Happy Spring Festival.

Keep blogging. Maybe you can share some more about your family history. I would find it very interesting.

Those are very interesting photos (though I can’t see the second one). In English, we would call your Grandmother’s Grandfather your Great, Great Grandfather.
