Teams need more than talent to win title

Kenny Smith    The author of this article is Kenny Smith who is the NBA analyst for Yahoo! Sports. He had played on two NBA championship teams, but he had also played for teams that had litte hope to win a title. So in his opinion,  it was  easy to see which team is more possible to become a champion and which team is not. As we all know, every team in NBA wants to become an NBA champion. There are telltale signs that show whether a team is ready for the trophy.  Going through his checklist, we can see if our favorite team is ready to win it or not.

In his checklist, we can see that the first is the style of play, A team needs a defined style, so when things aren’t going well the players can return to the system’s set principles; Second, the team should get a quality point guard and an inside presence; No.3 is that the team need a superstar, someone who can take over a game; The forth is a beast, a player that takes the big shot or makes the key defensive play. Someone with enough experience to steady the team when the pressure rises; The fifth is a great bench, it is very important to have some players who can come in the game and change the momentum; The sixth is adversity. Sometimes the team wins the title  because of the adversity , it happens in a variety of ways: an upsetting loss, a players-only meeting, a trade or an injury to a key player; the seventh is a magical moment, pulling out an important victory when you’re about to lose; and the last is chemistry. The championship teams need to have players who respect each other and their coach.

It is a huge disappointment to both of the organisation and the fans that Houston Rockets All-Star center Yao Ming will miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his left foot. Rockets team doctor said that Yao had been bothered  by the injury of his left ankle since the Feb 17 All-Star game. They did not make the desition till now that whether to put a cast on it or operate. However, Yao would need at least 3 to 4 months to recover, whether or not he had surgery.

Yao has been an All Star in each of his six NBA seasons, averaging 19 points and 9.2 rebounds. His injury becomes the most heart-breaking to the team. Which is even worse that it is uncertain that Yao would able to return in time to represent China in Beijing Olympic Games. And Yao said that If he  could not play in the Olympics for his own country this time, that would be the biggest loss of his career up to right now.
