country-living 3

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

The weather has been a little bit crazy lately. It’s cool in the morning and warm during the day.  Every morning after I’m done with my breakfast, I will put on a warm-up pair of pant and a jacket to keep myself warm while watering my small garden. As it’s getting closer to 11 o’clock, the sun begins to shine so strong that I can feel the heat creeping inside my clothes. It’s time to go inside to change to a pair of shorts and a T-shirt. After I’m done watering my two gardens, I either come inside to check my email or go out for a walk, but walking is more tempting than checking email. I haven’t seen my new friend for two days and wondered where she is.

Living about 700 yards from a horse farm, I can hear their horses making noises every now and then. They are very magnificent creatures, really; their reddish color looks very stunning. This farm has fives full-grown horses; two of them are mares with two a week-old ponies. One of the mares is very protective; she didn’t like the idea of me being too curious about her little one.I happened to take my usual morning walk and saw her with her pony nearby so I stopped to take a closer look. I was probably 20 yards away from a fence and that was near enough to make the mare nervous. Obviously my advent was not welcomed at all and I didn’t try to push, either. Without waiting for a warning sign from the mare, the little pony moved to the other side of the mother so that she could shield him from any danger. She and I exchanged our glances and I knew right there that I ought to back away. She continued walking towards me; I raised up my hands and said,”All right… all right… I’m going.”http://www.vimick.co.uk/show_dogs.htm

Suddenly I saw a black and white border collie, a dog from this farm, running to greet me. She and I had made friends the other day and since then, it’s been very difficult for me to persuade her not to follow me around. My one-mile walk has been cut short to only a half mile because the dog doesn’t really care if I want my exercise done. She does what she wants and there is nothing I can do about it. Anytime I say ‘sit’ (hoping she would stay in her yard), she will creep in closer and stand just an inch away from me. “What should I do with you, doggy?” It’s been three days in a row that she accompanies me for a walk. She likes to run across the street to sniff at whatever interests her. Meanwhile I have to keep my eye on the road making sure that I call her before an advent of a car. She has been obedient enough to listen to me so I’m very pleased with her manner. Still I can’t help being nervous when I hear a car coming. Well, my own dog got hit two years ago and a memory of seeing her lying lifeless with blood draining out of her mouth is still fresh in my mind.

country living

Even though it’s little more than half way through spring season and a maple syrup season has just been over, it is still too cool to wear a pair of shorts and a t-shirt that I normally wear during this time of year. A temperature in the country tends to be 5 or 10 degrees cooler than it does in the city. Looking around, I can see a different color of flowers blooming on every tree. Whether or not I care for the flowers, I can’t help admiring the natural beauty surrounding me. The scenery is spectacular and the weather is not too harsh to cope with. Life in the country is pretty peaceful and easy-going; sometimes it’s too quite for a formal city girl like me. The smell of cow or pig manure can be rather disgusting; however, it’s inevitable for the country not to have this kind of smell. People learn to live with it.

Hello world!

Welcome to my blog! Some people say, “Tomorrow is just another day” but to me tomorrow brings a new opportunity. I can be both optimistic and pessimistic, depending upon what’s going on that day; however, I always try my best to look at things in a positive way.
