MY GOALS

Monday, April 28th, 2008

When graduating from my senior high school, I was told that it was essential to set a goal and persist in pursuing it. Three months later in my first university class ,I was asked , “well, what are your goals ?”

“To be a lawyer , sir .” I answered unhesitantly, for I had been thinking it over on the summer vacation. Honestly speaking , I had already mapped out a demanding schedule.

Considering the sitnation in our nation ,My principal efforts will be devoted to attaining law credentials . Since cases are always involved in various kinds of fields , I then am to falce as many optional courses as possible . To avoid judging unfamiliar cases in my own light , and doingdisservice to my ethic moral , I am going to consult with superior solicitors and make out the obscure knowledge . Ultimately , I have planned to go to court to learn due praess.

No one will pave the way for me . I will achieve my goal with sweat and work.

Wessex

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Wessex was the south-western region of the island of Britain that has been ruled by the West Saxons from the early Middle Ages to the last quarter of the nineteenth century. However it is widely known as a imaginary region where Thomas Hardy’s novels and poems take place .The following is a general history of Wessex as Thomas Hardy’s private poverty.

From the beginning of his career, Hardy depended on the places in which he grew up and upon the people who lived there, for the texture of his novels . Nevertheless, he soon found it was necessary  to work out every details of his novels in an environment with which he was intimately familiar rather than a general  impressin. So , in Desperate Remedies ( unpublished), and Under the  Greenwood Tree , he made out elements that would be essential to the establishment of Wessex .In Far form the Madding Crowd ,Hardy first used “ Wessex, ” but just in one chapter , He wrote “ Greenhill was the Nijini Novgorod of Wessex ,and……” He enriched the social and cultural sources of Wessex in The Retun of Native (1878). Later on, A Laodicean (1881) and Tower (1882) were nominally set in Wessex , but it was the location only . It was in The Mayor of Casterbridge (1886) made a considerable imaginative step in his understanding of Wessex . In 1886 Hardy collected most of his short stores he had published in magazines during the lase ten years , and he named then “wessex Tales” as he need more settings and people with some different social convictions, he expanded Wessex in his best known novel Tess.

Ggenerally speaking, Wessex experienced a greadual improving process, which manifests the course of Career as a renowned novelist throughout the world.

Children should begin their formal schooling at an early age

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

People have different views on what children should do at a very early age. Some think that children should begin their formal education and start to spend most of their time on studies. Others believe that it is still time for young children to play. Both views are based on respective ground.

Those who argue for the playing time for children suggest that children at a very early age are still too young to focus their attention on learning. Their brain may not be ready for serious studies such as comprehension and memorizing learning materials. These people are partially right, for it is true that young children can hardly concentrate. Their attention on one thing lasts for no longer than 15 minutes or so. But we can arrange classes for shorter periods, can’t we? And we can shift teaching subjects. Through putting them to study, young children are occupied with learning but not with playing.

Having children start formal education at a very early age benefits young children much more than simply letting them play most of their time. A good habit needs a long time to develop to become a second nature. More importantly, it is better to develop a good habit before a bad one may grow. Similarly, the love for learning should take toots for before the love for playing is established

Providing physical exercises should not be the schools responsibility?

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

While physical exercise is important, I do not believe that it is the school’s responsibility to provide physical training for its students.

That is something that everyone can take care of on his or her own

An issue is economic. Many schools do not have the money to provide , playing fields, and athletic equipment for their student. Other schools are located in cities where the kind of space just is not available. A few schools would rather keep money for academic purposes.

Schools also can certainly encourage physical activity. They can provide space for activities, events, and classes for physical activities. They can encourage students to plan time away from academic studies to get some exercise. However, I think that providing exercise should not be the schools responsibility.

Living in university dormitories or apartments in the community?

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

I think it is better for college students to live on campus during their first two years, and then move into an apartment for off-campus life, while juniors and seniors need the independence of off-campus life. Student’s needs change over four years, so their housing should too

Living in the dormitory also makes a student feel more a part of the university community. There are more opportunities for becoming involved in university activities .

Living off-campus, however, is a definite advantage for older students. Finding an apartment, d cooking meals, and figuring out budgets are all good practice for life after graduation. This kind of independence helps older students grow .

Off-campus housing also gives students a better perspective on what is going on around them. Campus can be like little worlds of their own. There are few children or older people and everyone is focused on education. Getting to know neighbors who are not students is good for students coming from difference places. It is a chance to find out what other people think and feel.

Should a person make an important decision alone?

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

A person should never make an important decision alone. People, who know you well, know what is best for you, and close to you can give you good advice, give you a different perspective, or share their own experience. When I had difficulty deciding which classes to take in collage, I talked to my teachers . they had the knowledge  to help me determine which classes were the best ones to take for my future career. Without their advice, I might have chosen courses.not fit me.

Last year when I was trying to decide whether or not I should study overseas, I talked to my friend. This was the best thing I could have done. This was a big decision for me because I had never been overseas on my own and I was not sure if I could do it. She had studied overseas the precious year. She told me about the challenges and opportunities.

Whenever I am faced with an important decision, I seek advice from others so that I am choose a good future.
