The Wind of Olympics

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

There is 100 days left for us to expect the fancy opening of 29th Beijing Olympic Games.

From Olympia to Athens, ancient Olympics is regarded as a legend, but the legend comes true today.

It promotes the blend of human beings. It colors our civilization. We can find the shadow of women’s liberation and beautiful senses of sports on the playground. We have received the legacy of triumph and regret, and improvement of science and technology.

Beijing, with its ancient past, dynamic present and exciting future, has the ability to hold the gala of human beings. Good luck, Beijing!

Good luck

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I find myself under great pressure for a period of time…

I try to find some good ways to cope with stress.

First, I should learn to abandon a lot of useless things, such as complaint, anger and idea of retaliate. I should learn to content with what I have already had—love, friendship and good life. Second, do some regular exercise for they will help relieve my stress. Third, learn to relax. Walk out of the circle of bad emotion.

I hope I will recover soon. Good luck and good night!

My idea on choosing friends

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

To choose those who are different from me, or those who are similar to myself to be my friends is a question. Either way has its point.

As we can see, similar friends mean having similar characters, sharing more likes and dislikes, thus understanding each other becomes more easily. They do things together naturally and harmoniously. Therefore, they feel at ease together and everybody can have a good time.

On the other hand, if a person makes friends different from him, he gets chances to be mixed with different people and benefit from the contact with them. He can learn a lot of things that he has never experienced by himself and he can also enjoy being with them after getting familiar with each other.

To sum up, I think that it is a good idea for me to have both types of friends.

Should the Older People Live with Their Adult Children

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Nowadays, it is heatedly discussed topic to many families that whether or not the older people should live with their adult children. Although my family is not a nuclear family—we live with my grand ma, I think it is better for them not to.

First, it may interfere in adult children’s independence and freedom. The situation will be worse if the adult children are already married. When the relationship between in-laws and the parents is not harmonious, the sons or daughters of the parents will be in an embarrassing situation.

Secondly, people of different ages have different ways of life. Furthermore, people of different generations have different views and values.

In short, it would be a better picture if the parents and their adult children do not live together: both the old and the young can enjoy complete independence and freedom, lead a life they like, and keep intact their affections for each other.

Qualities of a Team Leader

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Recently, I have been busying preparing the oral English final exam — a job interview. I came across a question: what kind of person do you think is suitable for the leadership?

A team leader is a person who is able to unite all the team members and direct their efforts towards the achievement of a common objective. Although a team leader may not necessarily be a genius with special talents and abilities, there are still some qualities that are essential and universal among successful leaders.

Generally a team leader is expected to be responsible for making decisions. He or she should have the ability to be the visionary for the people who are working under them. A team leader is the person who can set the course and direction for subordinates.

In addition, human skills, the knowledge of how to deal with people, are also very important. He should be willing to listen to different points of view and able to communicate his thoughts and opinions to others.

Last but not the least, the highest calling of a true leader is inspiring others to reach the highest of the abilities. A good team leader should be good at helping and encouraging.

Nobody is born to be a leader. But through long-term great efforts, you can improve your ability and skills, which will enable you to be a good team leader.

Do you ever feel angry with someone who stands too close, talks too loudly or make eye contact for long? —- “Yes!”

What makes somebody feel uncomfortable with those “close talkers” or with strangers who stand very near to us? —- one reason to this reaction or feeling is that we need more personal space.

Everyone has his or her privacy, which he or she desires to hold all by themselves. So we always act like that in order to protect ourselves. It’s a culture acknowledged by people allover the world.

So, give you some tips:

Best Distance for Different Groups

Lover — 15-45cm

Good Friends — 45-120cm

Acquaintances — 120-350cm

Public Distance — over 350cm

Parasites in Human Society

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Who is the parasite in the human society? Actually everyone is a parasite to some degree. Human beings live on the earth; therefore we are at least the parasites of this planet. Children live on their parents. Thus, somebody may think that it’s not ashamed to be a parasite. But I’m not the “somebody”. To me, those “parasites” are still the people who choose to rely on others rather than work, and make no contribution to the society. Usually they play negative roles in the society. We are born with responsibilities. We cannot just get what we want without making any efforts. Why those parasites appear? There are two main reasons.

First, when they were children, their parents pampered them. Therefore, they gradually lose some basic survival skills. A lot of well-off children cannot cook a meal for they are a typical example.

Second, most of those parasites are lack of ideal. They haven’t received any guide about they will do in the future. There is no aim to motivate them and no achievement to inspire them.

Thus, to parasites, family, school and society should help them recognize themselves, set a long-term goal and teach them skills to live on.

Birthday

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

On my twenty’s birthday, I received a book.

Jimmy’s work—“Love in the Cards”.

What I haven written down below is my translation of the first piece.

I like the picture. I like the writing as well.

I am willing to share them with you.

It is just like my own story.

Dear kid,

    I was once like you.

Raising my head, looking up at a piece of fresh leave or the floating cloud, I would simply feel happy.

    I was once like you.

Standing under the tree quietly, hearing the wind whispering in the woods and birds singing, I would simply feel moved.

Yesterday, in the park, I aped you to hear birds singing and wind blowing, to stare at green leave and floating cloud. Unexpectedly, they became bleak and chilly in my eyes. I felt bored.

I was slightly shocked. Stepping into a high-class dining hall depressingly, I ordered dear dishes, and drank wine. Afterwards, I complained haughtily the caviar was not fresh and rebuked the beefsteak was not tender…… Actually, I was just seizing on those to exaggerate; I was just mitigating my impetuous uneven mood…… I have been feeling annoyed that why I had become so disgusting?

    I envy you.

I mourn over what I have lost with great sorrow.

Differences between Exam-oriented Education and Qualify-oriented Education

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Nowadays, education has been a heatedly discussed issue. In our country, exam-oriented education has last for a long time, but now people are likely to stress more on qualifies. Before making judgments about which one is better, we should get a clear idea of the difference between them.
First, exam-oriented education and qualify-oriented education have different teaching ways. In the exam-oriented education class, teachers are always the centre. Students usually sit quietly, just listen and absorb without questioning. While in qualify-oriented education class, the situation is quite opposite. Students are the trunk of class. They participate experiments and achieve the result by touching and experiencing themselves.
Second, exam-oriented education and qualify-oriented education have different effects. Because of the different ways of learning, student’s achievements are always reflected in different aspects. For students who study in exam-oriented education environment, they are likely to have harder basis of theory and knowledge. Their terminal goal is to get high score on the paper, so they usually obtain mature exam skill. On the other hand, exam-oriented education teaches students to experience themselves, so they will have more practical skills and are more flexible in different condition.
Both exam-oriented education and qualify-oriented education have their advantages and weakness. We cannot easily say which one is better. In my opinion, combining these two kinds of education in a proper way will bring Chinese students the biggest benefit.

My Speech about Darfur

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Recently, I have read a book named Beauty and Sadness—Condoleezza Rice. It is a book introducing the growth and experience of the most powerful black woman in the world. The first chapter named “the descendant of black” starts from the history of African slaves. Historical picture unfolds on front of my eyes—several hundreds of years ago, those so-called Christians didn’t show any sympathy for the miserable people. What happened in that period is far beyond what we can imagine. We were gratified to see the brave young man stood up and stretched out his hand to blacks. Hundreds of years ago, there was scarcely communication among countries even continents. Without any outside help, the liberation of blacks on the new land was a heroic undertaking. Today, we are shocked at the Darfur issues. I want to remind you that the world has become globalized, and there will be more we can do to help the suffering people.
The humanitarian aid could be the best way to help those people. And indeed we have done some contribution. Chinese government and Sudanese government had signed names during a handover ceremony of aid package from China to Darfur on Feb, 25th this year. Darfur issues is rooted in racial problem and acted out as a fight between government and rebels. Based on the principal of respecting other country’s sovereignty, providing humanitarian aid is the most suitable and effective way. To save the people from the deep distress is the most immediate help.
War is never the solution of such issues. Military intervention may result in heavier death and injured. One country’s problem should be ultimately solved by itself, the stability result from other countries’ intervention or international reconciliation will never last forever. So the most urgent and effective help is the humanitarian aid.
Responding to those baseless judgments about Chinese government’s attitude towards Darfur problem, I just want to say there is no absolute wrong or right in the international relationship, except those deliberate war of injustice. Every country stands for its profit and holds its reasonable standpoint. We should get a clear understanding of the root of the problem, rather than make any hasty judgment on the external influence. I support my government. And I hope Darfur issues could be solved through negotiation. I propose other countries give their hands to those people. Let’s try our best to serve the humanitarian aid.
