Którędy or Which way

Don’t you just love this non-PC book cover? I have no idea what’s inside it because it’s a novel written in Polish. Apparently the title means “Which way” (or perhaps “Which way?”). And it’s written by Daniel Emmerson, who’s currently making the EnglishClub.com documentary film on learning English. If you’re Polish, or even if you aren’t but can read Polish, or even if you can’t read Polish but just like the cover, or Daniel, you can get the book online here. Personally I’m looking forward to my own free, signed copy—which Daniel promised to send me even though I don’t speak a word of Polish :)

What do YOU think about the cover anyway? Please leave your comments.

    Hello Dear JOE,
mmm the cover! According to my imagination regardless of the book’s content, I think the cover embodies Danniel Emmerson’s state when he planned to make the journey of his documentary film. Perhaps He was confused “Which Way” to take to start documenting: the way to New York, to Morocco or Spain…
    Best Regards

The cover poses a philosophical question to me:everyone has to decide which way to take in his/her life, especially in the youth time. “Way”, way of life. Here is my reading of the cover: a young man stands against a modern world background with the modern buildings and millions of paths of the ground, smoking. He is pondering which life way to take among the million. Which country to live in, which job to take, which friends to make, which belief to insist on…Questions that every youth might ask themselves. Therefore, i presume the book is about life choices, according to the cover.

I like the design. It to me seems very Eastern-European and yet also very French Mod.
I find it interesting that the title translates to “Which Way”, but the attitude of the figure in the image is of unconcern, as if the question asked is not yet of any importance.

I do not know Polish, but I used to be able to sorta pronounce it, after working in a couple Polish restaurants.

One of my favorite bands, a polish goth band called Delight, has a number of albums recorded but only only one of which is in their own language as well as in English. I must admit I have always found Polish to a very, ah, sexy language and so I almost always prefer the non-English version.
