What is a best boy? And key grip for that matter.
Did you ever notice those terms in the credits at the end of movies? Best Boy. What on earth is a best boy? What have best boys got to do with making films? And Key Grip! What’s that?!!! Never mind. We all know there are more questions than answers in this world, and I guess those are just two of them.

What is a best boy? This question is difficult to answer preciously due to more category about behaviors instead, The cultures and religions background from each country could be invented the boy’s behavior so one is good in each country is not the same to other so a good boy in average is a boy who can respect to society surrounding and keep their manner to not became a destroyer, this is my own opinion I hope others can give their assumption

hullo dear Sir,
you know,thoug i am going to write a word about “What is a best boy?”, i find it difficult to submit a comment about it, i feel that there is semething ambiguious and unclear in Your subject, semething i cannot understand.but, a (best boy) does not exist, since all human beings by nature are half good and half bad and cannot promote to the level of perfection.however, we can say a good boy or a good girl in relation to a number of parameters: behaviour, education,function,family,reputation… And as you mentioned above, “a best boy” exists only in movies because of his unreal existece and superficial actions.

Sorry if I am not aware if this “what-is” is supposed to get funny anwers only but as a movie fan I think many people would like to know what a “best boy” is. So:

The chief assistant, usually of the gaffer or key grip. In charge of the people and equipment, scheduling the required quantities for each day’s work. The term originates from promoting the crew’s ‘best boy’ to supervising, allowing the gaffer and key grip to stay on set and carry out the cameraman’s lighting needs. The origin of the term is from “pre-union” filming days when the line between Grip and Electric departments was less rigid. When the head of either department needed another body temporarily, he’d go to the head of the other department and ask him to “lend me your BEST boy”. By default the 2nd in charge of either department came to be known as best-boy. This term may also have been borrowed from early sailing and whaling crews, as sailors were often employed to set up and work rigging in theatres. There are no “best girls” per se; female chief assistants are also called “Best Boys”.

In my opinion ‘a best boy’ means if the boy has good personality, good attitude, good lifeskill (whatever the age), good behavior, and good life. But, of course, we cannot see it right away but let’s talk to him and, I’m sure, we will find out.

actually it’s a fliexible subject to discuss.everybod’s opinion might be different.because everyone have got different life style and different life philosophy.so this’s the my opinion…
the best boy is that who does not do bad things in his life and rescue people who are in the trouble.

I agree with hanena.we can judge of a boy in relation to a lot of parameters:behaviour,education,reputation and so on.One of the most improtant characters is responsibility.When a boy is responsible for anything to do by himself,i think the boy is the best boy
