IOC gives high mark to Vancouver’s Games preparations

April 4th, 2008 by galina4

Now we are all waiting for the Beijing Summer Olympic Games, But in 2010 Voncouver will be a host city for Winter Olympic Games. As for me I like to watch Winter Games more than Summer Games. May be because I was born in a snow country.

So according to the article The President of IOC,on a second time visited Voncouver, and checked their preparation. He marked that the work which was made is a very high standard work, and he was so happy to see that athletes are already training on a new facilities. There are 2 years to wait, and he noticed that people from Vancouver will make everything enjoyable. He also visited the new Richmond speed skating oval,  the UBC Winter Sports Centre and Olympic Village, where athletes will live during the Games.

So now we anly can wait two years,to enjoy beautiful Vancouver, and Winter Olympic Games 2010.

Air pollution forces star to pull out of Olympic marathon

April 2nd, 2008 by galina4

According to this article, air pollution in Beijing is still bothering some athletes. The world record holder still not sure if he will run the marathon in Olympic Games in Beijing on august. Gebrselassie is 34 years old, world record holder and have two Olympic titles, is suffering from asthma. He said that pollution in Beijing is  dangerous for his health, and it will be difficult for him to run  42km, but he will run 10.000 metre event. Chinese government already spent more than 16 bln . on improving the air in China, a lot of factories were closed or moved out of Beijing. The report by United Nation in october said that still it’s not enough time to clean Beijing air.But we can’t say that if person have asthma he/she can’t be an athlet. But asthma is not an obstacle to the sport.

The British marathon runner Paula Radcliffe was diagnosed with asthma at 14 and keeps the condition under control with medication. Paul Scholes, the England footballer, found out he had asthma at the age of 21. But gulping in large volumes of polluted air in Beijing will challenge even the healthiest lungs.

So we can only hope that all athletes will participate in Olympic Games, in events they want to, and noone will be more injuried by the “Clean” Green Olympics.

The Youth Olympic Games

April 1st, 2008 by galina4

According to the article “The Youth Olympic Games” : The first ever youth Olympic Games will be held in 2010 in Singapore. The Youth Olympic Games is the games for young athletes  aged from 14-18. In Guatemala in July 2007, IOC decided to create this new event is to educate, inspire and influence young kids. They want them to think more about good health, different cultures, and raise the importance of sport among young kids.In the first ever Youth Summer Olympic Games will participate about 3.200 young athletes and 800 officials. The first winterYouth Olympic Games will bring together around 1000 athletes and 500 officilas. Singapore will be the host cityof the 1st Games, IOC chose it by making a vote, it was 105 members of IOC that were eligible to vote. The vote was unveiled on February 21,2008 by IOC President. Nine cities took part in the election, and Singapore beat Moscow by 9 votes. The 1st Youth Winter Olympic Games will be on 2012. The city is undecided yet.

I was really surprised to read this article. On one hand is very good, because  it really will educate young children about everything:different culture, sport, good health ,do not use doping etc. But on another hand it seemed so strange to me. Because in the kind of sport like artistic gymnastic, girls are very young, and for them, they  as  I understand can participate in two kinds of Olympics, or first they must win Youth Games and only after that they can participate in usual Olympic Games. And in nowtime a lot of athletes are only 17,18 years old…what the IOC will do with them?Do not let them participate in Usual Olympics?I really want to know how they will deal with it,or will they care about it?

Protesters disrupt ceremony

March 29th, 2008 by galina4

According to the article “Protesters disrupt ceremony”,  Chinese state television cut the torch lightning ceremony in Greece because of protesters who were trying to disrupt the speech given by chinese chief of organising committee  Liu Qi. Three men  grab  the  microphone during the speech. The reason was that  they though  the China  is  the  country  which tramples  on human rights. It was the ceremony  when torch will be lightened in Olympia  and through all the world will come to Beijing Olympics  in 08.08.08 .  The torch ceremony  was being shown  with a little delay  if compare  with BBC. Campaign groups are expected to target the torch relay route to highlight their causes, which include improved human rights in China and anger at the clampdown following rioting in Tibet over the past two weeks. Thank You to the good Greece security and noone were injuried.

I think this kind of ceremonies always  have provide  great security service. Because  a lot of people attending it and a lot of protestors in the world. A lot of people  are not agree to  hold the Olympic Games  in their cities. There  are a lot of  reasons for that. In China  it was  Taiwan problem and Human rights. In  another  country  it can be  another problem, because always  there  is  problems.

Rogge: China making progress on air quality

March 17th, 2008 by galina4

According to the article Chinese government improving in the cleaning the Beijing air.As I know Beijing is the most “Dirty” city in the world! But now it become better, Chinese government have made some real changes that probably can help, they changed coal to gas energy, closing 10 percent of its gas stations, planting al ot of green trees,we all know that green leaves can give more clean oxygen. But I think that chinese government should think about this problem more early because it almost 3 months left until the Olympic Games but air is still not clean enough and the name of tha Games as we all know “Green Olympics”. Almost every day when we wake up we can see a smog outside, its all because of cars and some other reasons. But we can say that we are healthy but when Olympis will start a billions of people will come to watch this great event, but a lot of people have different deseases as asthma and they just can’t survive without fresh air, which is difficult to find in Beijing.
We will hope that Chinese government will decide this problem, and try it best to make Beijing Green Olympics, really Green and without black, dirty, dry smog.

Food at Olympics is safe: Officials

March 5th, 2008 by galina4

According to the article American athletes want to bring their food to the Olympic Games, because they are not sure about Chinese food safety.  But chinese officials proved that will not be any problems with food safety, and officials said that noone can bring there own food to the Olympic Village.

I can completely understand American athletes because safety of chinese food is realy a problem in China.  It very good for us that we can’t see how they cook it. Because in Russia restaurants like these can’t be exist. It must be very clean and have proffesional cook.

Also American athletes afraid that some kind of meat can bring positive result to the doping test. But Chinese officials said that forbidden drugs can’t be used in China. This thing I can trust because China is so serious about this kind of things.

So I want to wish to China Good Luck in Olympics !!!!!!!!!!!!!

European Championships - Verner takes gold

February 1st, 2008 by galina4

According to the article “European Championship-Verner takes gold”, Czech Verner won the gold medal in European Championship. It was his first medal after serious injury last year! And to my big surprise Russian couple didnt take a gold medal home.

I really appreciate this kind of sportsmen, that  after serious injuries they still have power to compete again.I guess its pshycologically very difficult, a lot of people afraid to be injuried again.

Actually Figure skating is my favourite sport, it is so popular in Russia, and so beautiful. Russian figure skaters are the best in the world, and I hope that will be the best for a long time!
