Are We Ready for So Much Attention
As the Olympics approaching, China will be under unprecedented scrutiny in many aspects, such as economical, social, environmental, ethical etc. Meanwhile, criticism will follow.
Consumers are already concerned about “Made in China”, since it seems there’s no safety guaranty as long as the products are produced in China. And employees’ working conditions are also “very concerned indeed”. Companies linked to China through their supply chains start to think about whether this connection will harm their brand. The answer depends on the brand itself, its involvement with China and how China and the company will respond to the increasing doubt. If China can reassure consumers by implementing credible audit systems things will become better.
Two people added their experience and opinions below this article. Some are true I believe, but some are just totally bias. We admit that we still have a lot of problems that are waiting to be solved, but we also see the prejudice and antagonism against China. We will do our best not only to present splendid Games but also a modern, independent and strong China.

Yes it’s true. Because China is still an enigma in many people’s eyes, everyone will be watching to see what China is really like. Unfortunately, there are a lot of negative things people will be focusing on. In the west, however, that is part of progress, revealing the weaknesses so change can be made. That’s the fuction of the free press. That’s why when you read western newspapers they often report on bad news. For one thing, it’s more interesting than good news. For another thing, it’s how we bring about change.
Hopefully, China will not see itself as the victim of prejudice, but will be able to react honestly to honest assessments. Sometimes, more is known about China outside of China than inside. While inside China everyone has to put on a positive face, outside people are not under that constraint. While it may look like undue criticism to Chinese people, it’s just honest reporting that seeks to expose a need. Americans certainly criticize themselves along with others in the world. It’s just the nature of the press.
