The Power of Sport

April 12th, 2008

What is the most powerful thing in this world? Drugs? Weapons? True love between a boy and a girl or family? Well One thousand readers make one thousand Hamlets, but I believe everyone agrees that sport is the world’s obsession; the power of sport is irresistable. However, there are someone who want to challenge this power.

Lately I have heard a lot of negative news about the overseas torch relay, the ferocities of the nerved Tibetan terrorists have been doing, the extinguishing of the torch which is the most symbolic thing of the Olympic in the Paris leg of relay, different forms of disturbance of peace., injury , death so on and so forth. These deeds are apparent breaches of the spirit of the Olympics and you can see the tone of an incongruous Olymic is set before us, we Chinese, so we must take heart and fight against those detractors’ trumpeted fallacy and there is no margin for error. The Olympic will survive. The power of sport will ruin them who have underestimated this power, and I want to tell those ignorant terrorists that sport is powerful enough todrain one of all one’s emotions. Sport is something you can enjoy not only by watching but also by playing for your own. Be rich or poor, healthy or disabled, young or old.

Sport is so charming. No one is right to assault the holy spirit of sport. Those terrorists thought they could destroy the Olympic. They are totally wrong. Every sport lover and peace lover will slap the terrorists in the face telling them how they are overwhelmed by sport, and how they are crazy about the greatest sports gala, the Olympics. No one is supposed to boycott or disturb the Olympics for the sake of sport.

One more thing to say, sport is powerful and so are our Chinese people. Fight back and we do not allow others to belittle us!

Irritated by Tibetan Riot

April 7th, 2008

I am very raged when I was reading the article. The Tibetan terrorists are so nerved to claim independent from China. These terrorists are way inconsiderate. If Tibet became independent, it is sure that Tibet will be backwards and cannot survive as there is little energy resource in this small and kind of desert place. The terrorists are ruthless and cold-blooded. They have benefited from the support of Chinese government a lot but they bite the hand that feed them. They stir riots in China and other countries, disturbing the peace by murdering, firing, robbing, all ways of ruining. Now, they are drawing upon the Olympic and Olympic torch relay destroying harmony. They are despicable as they assault such a holy event. I think there must be some powers backing them otherwise, they cannot be so daring, and these powers must be unfriendly countries being afraid of China’s speedy development. In my opinion, all the peace lovers should fight against these culprits.

Seeing the police being so tortured in order to keep peace and ensure the security of other people in the risk of sacrificing themselves, and still facing the accusation of brutality, my heart go to them and this deepen my hatred to the Tibetan terrorists.

Some countries have been in an apparent breach of a promise that they will support the Olympics and China government. I believe the Chinese government has already known the main culprit and those detractors, and for sure they will deserve their ugly deeds.

Chambers ‘must help drugs fight’

March 20th, 2008

I know that now the number of drug-taking athletes is increasing since the difference is becoming smaller and smaller since drugs are serving as very good edge advantages.Another thing I know about doping is that the anti-doping seekers also have been practicing themselves sharp and shrewd. The cat and mouse game is always fierce without an end. However, I did not kown that the cat and the mouse can cooperate for the same aim which is anti-doping until I read the following lines “We need much more cooperation from those who have been caught and are prepared to share knowledge with us.” This is the quotation from propbably a drug tester

UK sport’s John Scott said he welcomed recent World Anti-Doping Agency proposals to provide convicted drugs cheats with the incentive of lesser sentences if they co-operate fully with the authorities.I think this is an acceptale proposal. It is a win-win method which allows to fulfill mutural interests, but one of the biggest challenges is that the natural reaction of any athlete that has been caught is denial. Athletes like Chambers having the willingness to cooperate is not the mainstream, so had taken the measure mentioned above, the bottleneck is how to conquer those former drug cheats.

The lesser sentence is a very good temptation, but I think people who implement it should be careful with the threshold, for if the sentence be lessened too much, say swifts a life long ban to a several years’ban, then many wily athletes may take the risk of taking the dope, because they may think a very advantageous Olympic Game deserves a risk of a several years’ban. But if the penalty is lifelong ban from any matches then it is quite another thing. On the contrary, if the sentence is not changed in a significant degree by cooperation, the cheats may refuse to tell any information. In this way the situation is quite paradoxical, enough a dilemma. Way is always been exploring, and though people come up many unexpected adversities, they prefer to believe hope always exist. It may not be here but might be there.

Figure Skating Rivalry Pits Athleticism Against Artistry

March 18th, 2008

They are the best figure skaters of the U.S., and this is the only thing what they share. Actually, these two skaters, Evan Lysacek and Johnny Weir differ vastly, from every aspect.

One stands 6 feet 2 inches, wears panther black, the other weighs an avian 125 pounds, favors sequined swan outfits and coyly brushes off patter about his sexuality. Evan Lysacek skates with precision and adrenalized power, wants figure skating in the X Games while Johnny Weir who is asked if his eyelashes are real and announces that they are,.adores skating’s operatic performances. To sum up the difference of the opposite types, Evan Lysacek is an athlete who was once hockey player and Johnny Weir is an artist who causes the people’s assumption of being a gay by judging his personality and his package, calling music the most important part of his sport.

And as a result of the big difference and disagreement between the two skaters, they do not like each other, but they both have their fans backing faithfully their athlete and artist.

Be Balanced

March 9th, 2008

This article reminds me of the situation of Chinese athletes. I do not know if the situation is the same as before. In the past several years, I can on and off see news of the poor situation in which some Chinese athletes also lived a level under the poverty line, and among those, there were some who were once the Olympic heroes. Maybe, they were not even remembered by the audience, the public when they were standing on the pedestal, singing the nation’s anthem. If not, the public really have got poor memory. Those athletes spent most of their life, their prime time on the training, committed all their energy and effort into the specific sport, but they are submerge in silence. They do not dair to expect too much from the public. Those who have got Olympic medals even are forgotten let alone those who have not. My heart go out to those silent heroes though some are not medalists. They have already devoted their youth, the most valuable thing in one’s life, for their country, but they are not well treated. Life is hard for them if we do not show any care for them. They have no other skills but sports skills, so once they step out of the sport world, it is vey difficult for them to survive or live an average life.

People should not only pay attention to famous athletes like Liu Xiang, Yao Ming. They do deserve so much attention as Chinese heroes, but what about those who are forgotten. They are ahtletes same as Liu and Yao, all of whom are Olympic champions. The only difference may be their events. Perhaps, we should turn our eyes on both those hotr and cold events, because when doing the medal tally, the cold event medals are counted in too.

Money Talks to Chinese Children

March 3rd, 2008

“15.4 percent of the city’s 17 million people — about 2.6 million — were rich enough to own a house and a vehicle.”“ 569,000 families or individuals in Shanghai with liquid assets of at least $62,500.”From the above figures, it seems that all Chinese people are getting richer and richer. However, if we see the problem under the surface, we may receive a big blow. This report is just limited to Shanghai, the richest city of China and those who are getting richer and richer are rich people. The poor, on the contrary are actually getting poorer and poorer. This is a serious problem of China. The gulf between rich and poor are widening, resulting in a vicious circle.

In China, there are many rich people many of whom lack of basic manners. They are very money-oriented,snobbish and proud. In some sense, many rich parents send their children for a golf course, a junior M.B.A. program etc. just to show off or follow the tide. They glorify their purpose as to let their children to live a better life than they have had. And to prepare their children for the competitve society. I do believe many parents’doning so for their children’s sake. But this is the renson why there are numerous spoiled children in China.

Another problem is that many affluent parents just impose their interest on their children. They are enrolling their children in everything from ballet and private music lessons, to classes in horse riding, ice-skating, skiing and even polo. They send their children to English-speaking countires so that their children can have a head start on English. They also send their children for course training youngsters how to become proper ladies and gentlemen in the highest Western tradition. Is it necessary. They are chinese ,judging either from inside or outside. They said they are planning ways to cement their children’s place in a fast-emerging elite, which sounds reasnable. In this kind of parents’guaranteed life, children are victims in some way. The burden they have to shoulder is as much as that of an adult.

Has China already been as terrible and competitive as what those parents described. If it was, then how about people like me, the past generations? Compared to them, we are not furnished at all. How can people like me survive? I respect people who came from nothing and made something of themselves.

A Very Dangerous Bet

February 25th, 2008

Unlike horse racing, people especially the players cannot bet as freely as they like in tennis, and what will happen if some “unlucky dog” is caught betting in the session of the match. Giorgio Galimberti, an Italian tennis player is a lively victim. He was suspended for 100 days and fined 35,000 dollars for betting on matches. His lost a lot in this bet by sending 35,000 dollars Monday to his “betting partne

Yet worse for Giorgio Galimberti in court is that he is a seasoned better. ATP, the governing body for men’s tennis, said Galimberti bet on tennis from June 2003 to January 2006, but there is one strange situation Giorgio Galimberti  did not specify if he bet on his own matches.

However, in the violation of this sort, Giorgio Galimberti is rather a follower than an usher. He is the fourth Italian player to be suspended for betting. Late last year, Potito Starace, Daniele Bracciali and Alessio Di Mauro were found guilty of gambling on matches involving other players. Starace was suspended for six weeks and fined $30,000. Bracciali was suspended for three months and fined $20,000. Di Mauro was suspended for nine months and fined $60,000.

As for those addictive betters, I should say you should be understandable since the prohibition of betting on tennis matches has its own explanation for your sake.

Taiwan remains thorn in Beijing’s otherwise rosy outlook for Olympics

February 8th, 2008

As the Olypics’ approaching, China is getting more and more prepared. To leave nothing to chance, almost everyone is out, but there are still some people from somewhere thinking, planning and doing something opposite. The main part of this stream is come from our own country, Taiwan which is the thorn of the flesh.

The hostile power rufuses the torch relay. How evil it is as it is part of China. How dare it is to have the intrigue to be indepedent as a country. But Chinese government are still thinking for them, because Chinese government wants to protect its people, those innocent ordinary people, and try yo respect its officials. The mainland is keeping peace with Taiwan. However, some officials of Taiwan government do not accept the friendship and remain offensive. For this kind of hostility or other sort of aggressions, I think we should be tough enough, and take necessary action either for self-protection or throwing threat, otherwise, they would think we are cowards. How can a populary nation with the third vastest terittary be humilated like this?

Why as a province of China, Taiwan so disappoints China? Who is the culprit? There is no doubt that officials like Chen Shuibian are culprits but how about the public accouting most of the population? I believe if the public frimly take the same policy with that of China government’s and fight aganist those hostile indenpentants. The side with more backers will win.

The Unnecessary Vote

February 2nd, 2008

What is vote for? In the past, vote meant democracy but how about now? Is it still only means ideas from people, from the public, and filtering out the most common one? Gone with the time, the society has already changed the essence of many words, and vote is one of the “victims”, especially votes through the Internet.

Like this one the passage offers. I think it is more an entertainment than a holly vote. Everyone has his sport hero, whom they defend whenever he or she is offended. So imagine what will happen if their hero is not the greatest sporsman by vote. And how authentic is the vote impeded by different kinds of tricks. The vote campaign impells the opposite side or the
indifferent, innocent people involved, making them confused, puzzled and converting their beliefs. It sounds like religious persecution.

I also have my greatest sportsman and not only one! I believe so does everyone. I know the greatest sportsman by vote is no doubt the most universally loved, but it shadows the heros whose admirers do not chooose him. It is a hurt for these fans and also a big blow to those sportsmen who are equally excellent but are not well valued. Therefore I think it is better for ue be more considerate.

On Field or on Bench, Beckham Delivered

January 22nd, 2008

When people talk about sport they are always connecting it with boys. The reasons for this phenomemon is either resonable or unreasonable. Bue girls are also obossessed with it especially as the hardcore fans. They are carzy about the skilled athletes or those handsome ones. If there is someone who is spoiled by God, possessing both excellent skill and perfect physical appearance, he or she must be put in the spot light. David Beckham is lucky enough to be chosen to be one of the person of this type.

On field, Beckham has approved his specialty to the world. But that belongs to the past and in the recent years, I am sorry to say there is no incredible performance as a footballer. Although he has been achieving a lot from the advertising. This makes Beckham more commercialized as a foot player. People debated, gossiped when he transferred to Los Angeles Galaxy. He gives up football? Because America is not so good at soccer. Those Europeens are far crazy about football. Most world class players gather in Europe and play there, compete there. Dose Beckham want to be the Hollywood star? No one is sure of that but everyone knows he has been making a lot of money in America.

People are still running after Beckham; Americans are running after him. Although Beckham plays sparsingly in Galaxy, the grandstand is filled with the fans of Beck. People are cyong for him, hoping to watch his skill of playing or just to take a glance at his handsome figure.
