Roddick beats Federer in Miami

ldkd45.jpgAmerican Andy Roddick stunned world No. 1 Roger Federer in a thrilling, three-set match to advance to the semifinals at Sony Ericsson Open.

The sixth-seeded Roddick unseated the Swiss superstar Federer 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-3 at Crandon Park, breaking an 11-match losing streak to Federer dating back to 2003. Roddick only had one break point the entire match, but used it to take 5-3 lead in the deciding set.He then handcuffed Federer with a serve on the third match point for Roddick’s 17th and final ace of the match.

Before winning the first set tiebreak with an ace, Roddick dropped 10 straight sets to Federer. The 25-year-old had not taken a set from Federer since the first frame of a round-robin match at the 2006 Tennis Masters Cup in China.The 12-time major titlist Federer fell to 15-2 lifetime against Roddick, including wins in the 2004 Wimbledon final and the 2006 U.S. Open title match. Federer’s loss was his fourth of the year, and the 26-year-old has yet to make it to a final in 2008.

P.S:Roddick’s semifinal opponent will be fourth-seeded Nikolay Davydenko from Russian.
