So far I have had one student who was serious about taking a trial class and paying for it, which was not a problem, because I still got paid. She was doing trials with several teachers and picked the one she liked the most. What I don't like is someone spending several emails and phone calls trying to set up a class then can't decide if they want a private class or not. But that's part of the business of privates I guess. I just keep those kind of emails short and to the point. Which discourages them from trying to practice their English for free, while pretending to be interested in a real private class.
