I finally persuaded my Korean boss to invest in an overhead projector which he bought from an online auction. Dunno what you think, but laptop beamers and projectors take a long time to set up and for me, you just can’t beat yer old OHP. Here are the advantages:

Quick & Easy - just transfer your oft used stuff onto transparencies, stick them in a folder and bob’s your uncle.

Gets students heads up out of their books, feels like you are communicating to real people when they look at you!

Why not stick up a Larson cartoon to suggest the topic for a lesson?

Mimic your old high school teacher by using the clever hide and reveal method! Drop-downs on powerpoint? Fuggedabouttit!!

Get your students to come up and contribute to the display with those special little pens.

Good section divider in your lesson when you snap that light off!

If you’ve got a very nice boss, he/she might even buy you a roll-down paper screen so you don’t have to project on to the whiteboard.

Ace for correcting writing!
