Korea mon amour!

0101l.jpg

These Korean managers I have at my new school in Daegu are amazing. Got to give them credit as some entries in this blog give the impression that all EFL life in Korea is gruesome. Big flat, nice area, nice students, reasonable managers, decent money and…I’m impressed! So it is possible!<>

I took this job on the word of a friend and that seems to be the way to do it - especially if that friend isn’t moving on and has an interest in replacing him/herself. I hear pretty good things about Yale and Moonkhang too so until I hear different…

To all would-be EFL teachers, the Suseung-gu area of Daegu which has the largest concentration of Hagwons looks like a good place to go. Teachers’ apartments are usually big - this one is bigger than the one I had as a downtown DoS. Also the air is cleaner around this area and the biggest advantage is - no split shifts! Can take a while to get accustomed to not having to be in until 3 or 4 in the afternoon but I’m sure you’ll get used to it!

    Hey Mike,

Just wondering if you know of any places hiring in Suseung-gu area? I was getting set-up nicely in one new place, but they backed out yesterday because they wanted to go through an agency. My wife is Korean and I have worked in Daegu for two years, but we are now in Canada while I take my masters. Let me know if you hear of anything, or don’t…

    Blessings,
    Brian

    Brian,

check out one of my earlier posts called good job of the month - in terms of conditions and pay it looks good. i think one key point is to insist on having the chance to talk to a current teacher at the school or contact by email, when you can ask them to tell you the good and bad points. in suseung-gu i’ve heard good things about moonkhang and yale - 2 big schools in this area. but one branch may be better than another. keep an eye on daveseslcafe.com
