“THE WINTER OF OUR DISCONTENT”
Hello, now I can feel free to move and read another novel. This time, I am going to reread the novel titled THE WINTER OF OUR DISCONTENT written by JOHN STEINBECK. It is a novel that talks about an honest man who wants to remain faithful to his morals and principals, a man whose conscious directs him towards all that is noble and elevates him to be a victim of corruption or all that can seduces him to be dishonest. What I appreciated most in this novel is the narration made by the main character of the novel; Ethan. He talks to dogs, to cats, to birds. he talks to the cans, and the tins in his store, to the water drops that are leaking in the toilet with such an incredible imagination and rich style. He goes deep inside things, and human beings, analyse and understand them if not unveil the evil side within them. He is a poor man but rich with values, principals, and morals that he feels alone even when being among the dearest persons to his heart, his wife and children.
You know, I liked this novel very much that I am reading it for the third time. There are some extracts that are so meaningful and for sure I’ll let you appreciate it with me: << Recently many little things had begun to form a pattern of larger things. it’s as though events and experiences nudged and jostled me in a direction contrary to my normal one or the one I had come to think was normal_the direction of the grocery clerk, the failure, the man without real hope or drive, barred in by responsibilities for filling the bellies and clothing the bodies of his family, caged by habits and attitudes I thought as being moral, even virtuous. And it may be that I had a smugness about being what I called a “Good Man.”>> page 94
I wish I was at the level to talk abot such a Great a Novel.
