San Francisco is the sixth stop of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games torch relay outside the Chinese mainland. Chinese Olympic swimming champion Lin Li, who was the first runner of the San Francisco relay, began her run by holding the torch high and waving to a cheering crowd. At one point, Tibetan separatists tried to disrupt the torch relay. They tried to grab the torch, but were pushed back by police escorting the torch relay. Supporters of China’s role as host of the Games were upholding Chinese national flags and displaying the Beijing Olympic mascot Fuwa on the city’s waterfront.

The world can only hope for a greater proportion of positives at the Olympic Games here this summer. Competition will take place in sparkling architectural marvels. The jarring juxtaposition of ultramodern hotels, lavish restaurants and indoor malls a short taxi ride from centuries-old homes deep in musty avenues called hutongs will astonish visitors. The Great Wall is less than an hour from downtown Beijing. The Forbidden City – a magnificent complex of ancient palaces and courtyards that was the exclusive domain of emperors for nearly 500 years – is as accessible as Disney World. China has suggested it will ban live television shots from Tiananmen Square, the spot where soldiers killed hundreds of pro-democracy students in 1989. The enormous portrait of Mao hanging above the Tiananmen Gate to the Forbidden City could become a background shot and a sound bite, its presence a symbol of the country’s complicated, contradictory past open for mischaracterization. Understandably, officials want to keep the focus on the Games.

Olympic sports emphasis participation rather than winning the game.I think its more a case of at least they’ve tried rather than losers. I think its the tryers that are loved. Where was eddie the eagle Edwards there. He was a loser, but he tried and thats what the public loved. I think the media are the ones that make us out to love losers not us.More people get involved in sports,the essence of Olympic will be more reflected through the competition. We love failures not because of failures themselves but the spirit of participation.

Sunday sees the final of the Spring Classics, the 94th edition of Liege-Bastogne-Liege ?which began in 1892 ?when the riders tackle a 261km race in Belgium’s Walloon region.To be fair to Cadel, he’s hardly competed in one day races. Maybe it will teach him to attack, at last. Although to be fair there’s not much he can do when he’s in a team built around Robbie McEwen.I would say Cunego has a chance, yet I’m worried he’s peaking too early. Is he even taking part in the Giro this year? Surely this would jeapordise it. Although if he’s focusing on the Tour he can probably get away with a victory today.

Manchester United players were involved in a post-match scuffle with Chelsea staff after their defeat on Saturday. Chelsea say they will look at CCTV footage before deciding on any action.
Meanwhile, United’s Rio Ferdinand apologised to a steward after accidently kicking her following Michael Ballack’s late penalty winner. Ferdinand was infuriated by referee Alan Wiley’s decision to award the late penalty, given on the advice of an assistant referee, for a Michael Carrick handball, that Michael Ballack converted to give Chelsea victory.

Sebastien Bourdais wrecked the Toro Rosso F1 team’s new car on its maiden appearance during testing in Spain. Toro Rosso are hoping the STR3 will make its full debut at next month’s Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul. Lewis Hamilton continued his preparations for next week’s Spanish GP at the same venue by completing 102 laps, setting the seventh best time of 1:20.591. But Frenchman Bourdais, in his debut F1 season, crashed into a barrier at the Circuit de Catalunya on Wednesday. Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost said: “He simply went too fast.” The damage means Sebastian Vettel will be unable to use the car in the final day of testing.

Lewis Hamilton has put the racist abuse he suffered earlier this year behind him in his return to Barcelona for the Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix. Hamilton was taunted by fans at the Barcelona track in February, prompting Formula One chiefs to launch its Racing Against Racism campaign.Apart from the racist jibes, some local fans still hold a grudge against Hamilton following last year’d feud with his former team-mate, and Spanish favourite, Fernando Alonso. However, the McLaren driver says his focus will be firmly on events on the track this weekend. Hamilton said his experience in Bahrain had taught him a lesson.

Lorena Ochoa is an amazing golf player.She started the round three behind Tseng and was four back after a bogey on No. 2. But she made three birdies in a row starting with the ninth and took the lead for good with a near-perfect approach shot on No. 11.She gave Tseng and a few others a chance to keep it close by just missing birdie putts on the next three holes. The 26-year-old Ochoa then closed out her round with birdies on 15 and 18, pumping her right fist after each one hit the bottom of the cup. She is a easy-going golfer and often smile to people. She actually likes pressure and thinks that pressures could force her to work hard in order to win a game. What is more surprising is that she got lots of sponsorships!
