It’s always about money!
Today I have a funny quote for you. What do you think of the sentence below?
“If your outgo exceeds your income, then your upkeep will be your downfall.”
I like the quote because it’s true, but I also like the play on words. “Outgo” is not a real word, but we can guess what it means here by comparing it to “income” which is the money you get from your job. (When we work, money “comes in”, right?) The word “upkeep” means to keep your life style - eating the foods you like to eat, living in a nice house or apartment, driving a nice car or buying the latest fashions, etc. The meaning of “downfall” should be obvious - if you fall down, it is not a good thing!
So, what do you think about money?

I think we worry too much about money. Life is short, we should focus more on our loved ones, on sharing and caring, on doing good (and interesting!) things. In other words, we should focus on life itself, rather than money.

I do not agree with the commet of ‘we should focus on itself rather than money’. Actually money is important cause with money people can do everything they want. With money also they can fullfill whatever their beloved needs. Without money, how people can focus on their loves?on their sharing and caring?on their interesting things??One thing I want to emphasize is with money people can be more powerful. So think about this.

My students in China would certainly agree with you, Diana. However, many of them are now becoming “workaholics”, meaning they work too much and don’t have time for their families. Certainly money can allow them to buy things for their loved ones but isn’t there some danger of chasing money too hard?
I wonder if other people agree when you say “with money also they can fulfill whatever their beloved needs”. I would like to hear other people’s comments!

I agree with Diana. too, nowadays money talks. without money the loved ones gone soon, when young you should work harder to save money ,otherwise till you old; it’s hard to be a workaholics. as the favorite quote of teacher Joe’s The best time to fix the roof is when the sun is shining…,

Okay, so the score is now Money 2, Life 1. The second half is about to begin! Will Yao Ming continue his strong “we need money to help our loved ones” move to the basket? Or will LeBron’s “all we need is love” strategy be a slam dunk? Watch these comments in the next week or so to see who wins! (*_*)

I see you have read my other blog posts. Great way to use what you learned! Use it or lose it, right? The sun is shining this week in Beijing, and I have some free time, so I am adding pages to my website (www.teacherjoe.us/Learn.html) and have made my first video for English pronunciation. I guess I will add some more of my favorite quotes in this blog so that other students can benefit from the great wisdom of the world!

Wo de zhong guo hua bu tai hao! Wo de gongzuo shi jiao yingyu, suoyi wo meitian bixu yong yingwen. Can you understand what I want to say???
I found when I studied French that I learned so many words by reading. Now when I try to read Chinese, I find it much more difficult. I have to not only think about how to write a character, including the stroke order, I often don’t know how it is pronounced, so I easily forget what I learn. Maybe in the summer I will have some free time to just study Chinese. Ruguo wo meitian bu yong yingyu, wo keyi hen kuai jin bu!
