Learning to Write in English
This week we talked about reading and writing with our students. I did some writing exercises in a couple of classes, but in my current school I never know who will show up to class, so it’s hard to build on previous classes. I gave them some advice on organizing our writing and we practiced writing clear sentences that focus on successful communication. I then remembered my old suggestion for a very common way to organize written paragraphs (click here to read) which is very general advice but you can use it in so many situations.
It’s too bad we did not have enough time to discuss writing in detail. I have no idea what I will be required to teach next week, but if I have a chance to continue with writing, I will certainly do it, even if it’s just one small exercise. It takes quite a bit of attention to write well, but anyone who tries can succeed. If you want to know all of the best advice I give to students, click here now!

Hi Hanane,
No, it’s almost impossible to get a ticket to either the opening or closing ceremonies. However, I did go to a big park in Beijing where two huge TV screens were set up and watched it there. It was like being in the stadium itself, with thousands of people cheering. The only thing was, we couldn’t see the fireworks. Other than that, it was great!

Hi Chris,
Yes, when you wrote that, China had four gold medals. I don’t think you really meant “from now on”, which means China must stop at four. I think in the future, China will have more than four! Zhongguo jia you!

Hello teacherjoe,
I just found your blog through an ESL link. Your writings are so fun. The sample paragraph in the PREP is particularly impressive, jaja. Your students are so lucky, they must enjoy your classes very much. By the way, is Joe your actual name or just a name for anyone, like “mou” in Chinese?
The performance of the Chinese team is amazing, isn´t it? It topped table with 51 golds, 100 medals. But the track and field as well as some ball games like football still leave much to be desired. Hope Liu Xiang will recover soon!
Please feel free to correct my English.
